As a
youngster I think I read every book in the
Nancy Drew
series. I also grew up enjoying the books in the
Little House on the
Prairie series, especially Laura Ingalls
Wilder’s descriptions of pioneer life. I got the
writing bug early after winning a couple of writing
contests in elementary school. Today my passion for
reading and writing is as strong as ever.
In
co-authoring The
Dragonfly Secret with John, the story seemed
to write itself. Both of us have always been inspired
by nature, so we felt privileged to write a story that
hopefully will give readers a chance to pause and wonder
about nature’s healing capabilities. The boy in the
story really took on a life of his own. I hope readers
will feel his warmth and playfulness, and be touched by
his ultimate act of kindness.
This
is our company’s second dragonfly-themed book. Aside
from the insect’s amazing transformation from water
nymph to dragonfly, I have learned so many interesting
facts about dragonflies. For example, not only did they
co-exist with the dinosaurs (with owl-like wingspans),
but dragonflies also possess incredible 360-degree
eyesight. I am fascinated by how their lives are split
between two worlds – one spent underwater and the other
spent above the water. All of this lends itself to
making the dragonfly a natural centerpiece for stories
about both loss and hope.
Some
of my most rewarding work involves interacting with the
many special organizations and groups that work with
children and families going through a difficult loss. I
have heard so many amazing real life stories from
readers who have found comfort in nature following a
difficult loss.
While
our publishing company is still growing, John and I hope
to continue to publish uplifting literature with
positive messages. I love to hear from and interact
with readers. I welcome your comments or stories. You
